How we rank dupes
Every dupe on dupeguide gets a match score from 0–100% that says how close it smells to the original.
1. Editor estimate
When a dupe is added, we give it a starting score based on the published note pyramids and on what the fragrance community (reviews, forums, comparison guides) reports about it. It’s a starting point, not a lab measurement.
2. Community ratings
Anyone can rate a dupe on five scales (similarity, scent, longevity, sillage and value). The more ratings a dupe gets, the more the match score follows what real wearers say. After around five ratings, the community counts more than the editor estimate.
3. Independence
Affiliate links never change the ranking. A dupe that earns us nothing can rank first, and often does.
Smell is personal
Skin chemistry, batches and maceration change how a fragrance performs. Always test a sample when you can.
